Archangel Michael 4

Archangel Michael is known as God’s “chief angel” and is often referred to as a “chief prince” of the heavenly host in the Bible13. His name means “who is like God” or “who resembles God”. The word “archangel” is a combination of the Greek words “archon,” meaning “chief,” and “angelos,” meaning “messenger” or “angel”. In the Bible, Archangel Michael is depicted as leading a host of angels in a victorious war over Satan and his demons. He is also shown as having a role in end-time events, protecting God’s people during times of trouble. In the Book of Daniel, Michael is mentioned multiple times as a “chief prince” who protects the people of Israel. In the New Testament, Archangel Michael is identified as being in conflict with the devil over the body of Moses2. The Bible does not provide a detailed physical description of Archangel Michael, but artists have often imagined him as a powerful and beautiful being, sometimes depicted with a sword as a symbol of his status as a warrior. Non-Christians can also find support and protection from Archangel Michael.
